How to find your bin number

Not every UK council prints a number on the wheelie bin. Check the bin, then the council. Do not assume a number exists.

Bin Stickers UK is an independent sticker supplier. We are not a council or government waste service. Confirm collection days, missed bins and replacement bins on your council's official website.

Look on the bin first

Stand the bin upright in good light and check these spots:

  • Lid — a printed or stuck number near the front edge.
  • Front face — the side that faces the street on collection day.
  • Side panels — especially near the handle or below the hinge.
  • Moulded digits — some bins have a serial pressed into the plastic. That serial is often the manufacturer’s, not your house number.

Wipe the area first. Dirt hides marks that are still there.

If there is no number

Many councils identify the round by address, not by a number on the bin. A house number and street on a sticker is then the useful label, not an official bin serial.

  1. Check every bin at the property. Only one of them may be marked.
  2. Look at a council waste letter or calendar for your address, if you have one.
  3. Ask the council that collects the waste whether they issue a bin identifier. Use their contact page.

We cannot look this up. We do not have access to council records. A sticker does not create an official council number.

When a sticker helps

Use the house number and street you want on the bin, or a number the council has already given you. Put it on a flat, clean part of the lid or front so it can be read from the kerb. See where to label a wheelie bin and how to apply the vinyl.
