How bin collection days work
Collection day is set by your council, not by a sticker. Use the council's own waste page to confirm the date.
Bin Stickers UK is an independent sticker supplier. We are not a council or government waste service. Confirm collection days, missed bins and replacement bins on your council's official website.
Where the official day is published
Find the council for the address on GOV.UK, then open that council’s bins or waste page. In Scotland, mygov.scot links each council’s bin-day page. Common tools on those pages:
- A waste calendar or PDF for the year, often split by street, postcode or collection zone.
- An address search that returns the next rubbish, recycling and food-waste dates.
- A note about public-holiday changes. Many councils move a round when the usual day is a bank holiday. The council calendar is the source for that.
What is usually collected
Names and weeks vary. A household service often includes:
- Residual waste — the rubbish bin that is not recycled.
- Recycling — mixed materials, or paper, card, glass, metal and plastic in separate containers. Your council lists what it takes.
- Food waste — a kitchen caddy and an outside container, where the council collects food waste.
- Garden waste — clippings and branches. Some councils charge for this bin or permit. Ask them before you assume it is included.
Your street may not have every service. A neighbouring council can use a different bin colour and a different week. Do not copy a calendar from another area. See what the council decides.
What to put out
- Put the bin out the evening before, or by the time your council specifies, with the lid closed.
- Leave space between bins and keep them clear of cars and low branches so the lift can reach them.
- Follow the council’s note on which way the handle should face.
- Bring the bin in after collection if the council asks you to.
Collection notes by nation
Each page below quotes a government site. The collection day is still your council’s.
How a sticker fits in
A house number or waste-type sticker does not change your collection day. It makes the bin easier to identify if it is moved. If the bin was not emptied, use missed collection and contact the council.
